Betfair Celebrates Two
Millionth Customer
October
15 - When Swedish betting fan Bo Ohrman recently signed up with
leading UK-based online betting firm Betfair to place a wager on
the outcome of the upcoming US presidential election, little did
he expect to enjoy his 15 minutes of fame by becoming Betfair's
two millionth customer.
'I feel honoured that I have been the one to mark this
impressive milestone for Betfair. When I opened an account in
September, all I expected was to be able to place some wagers on
non-sporting events such as the US presidential election, and
Wall Street - Up Or Down,' said Ohrman.
Not only can the lucky Swede enjoy the kudos of being Betfair's
two millionth customer, but also a VIP weekend in London for two
courtesy of the online betting site that offers all manner of
sports betting and non-sports betting wagers from politics to
entertainment to current affairs and more.
Launched in 2000, Betfair has grown to become one of the
foremost Internet betting sites in the world and today employs
over 1200 people in offices in England, Dublin, Australia, Malta
and Denmark. Betfair handles over five million transactions a
day, 99.9% of which are completed in under a second.
Betfair has also won various awards, including the Queen's Award
for Enterprise in the Innovation category in 2003, Company of
the Year at the Confederation of British Industry Growing
Business Awards for 2004 and 2005, and 'Operator of the Year' at
the eGaming Industry Awards in 2007.
Said Betfair CEO David Yu, 'In a year when we won a Queen's
Award for International Trade, it is only fitting that Betfair's
two millionth customer hails from outside the UK. We see our
international customers as an essential part of our business and
they are growing larger in number every day.'
South Africans are welcome to wager at
