Killer of Online
Gambling Mogul Brought to Justice
June 9 - Like a something straight out of a Hollywood
screenplay, the killer of well-known Canadian online gambling
entrepreneur and multi-millionaire, Adam Anhang, has
finally been brought to justice, not however, before an innocent
man spent 8 months in prison charged with the murder.
A natural-born entrepreneur, Anhang made his fortune as a savvy
real estate investor by developing high-cost beach-front
condominiums and hotels, and later become CEO of a leading
online gambling software company, CWC Gaming, based in Costa
Rica, where he moved to in 2003.
On September 23rd, the 32-year-old Anhang was strolling
through the city of San Juan in Puerto Rico with his wife, Aurea
Vazquez Rijos, when he was accosted and stabbed to death. None
of Anhang's personal possessions were stolen, suggesting that
the murder may have been a hit.
After an investigation by the Puerto Rico police, without the
assistance of Anhang's wife, who also sustained non-life
threatening stab wounds in the attack, Jonathan Roman Rivera was
identified as the killer and charged with the murder. He was
sentenced to 105 years in prison for the crime.
However, it has recently come to light that the police caught
and convicted the wrong man, and that it was Anhang's wife who
took out a contract on her husband. She allegedly paid Alex
Pabon Colon to have her husband killed. Two other suspects have
also been linked to the murder.
While Colon has been arrested, Rijos, who is currently living
outside of the US Caribbean territory, has been charged with the
murder. On the night of Anhang's murder, she and Rijos went out
for dinner to discuss their pending divorce, which is thought to
be the likely motive for the killing.
After Anhang's death, Rijos sued Anhang's parents for half of
his assets and earnings acquired during their marriage.
Jonathan Roman Rivera is expected to appear before a judge to
decide the conditions of his release.
