Leonardo DiCaprio Set to
Star in Online Gambling Film
June
17 - According to the Hollywood rumour mill, Titanic and Blood
Diamond star
Leonardo DiCaprio
has signed up to star in the lead role of a film
based on the online gambling industry,
with a focus on online casinos in the gambling-friendly
jurisdiction of
Costa Rica, a
small country in Central America.
As yet untitled, the project has reportedly
attracted the talents of Hollywood screenwriters Brian Koppleman
and David Levien.
Clearly fascinated by gambling, the dynamic duo wrote the script
for hit poker movie
Rounders,
starring Matt Damon and Edward Norton, and
Oceans 13,
with its large and talented A-list ensemble cast.
The
34-year-old Hollywood heartthrob is expected to produce the new
online gambling movie himself
through his own production company, Appian Way. He is currently
working closely with Koppleman and Levien on his new film,
Beat the Reaper,
a film about an ER doctor who gets caught up with a mobster.
DiCaprio has never been afraid to take risks in his film
choices, having played everything from a
retarded boy in What's Eating Gilbert Grape,
a drug addict in The Basketball Diaries,
a carefree backpacker in The Beach,
a conman in Catch Me if Your Can, an eccentric in The Aviator
and a
mercenary in Blood Diamond.
With the writers' grasp and respect for gambling,
it will be interesting to see what kind of script Koppleman and
Levien produce surrounding the online gambling industry,
particularly considering that
the popular internet pastime is currently banned in most of the
United States.
Watch this space folks!
