Microgaming to Block all
US Online Gamblers
November
7 - Despite the massive US crackdown on online gambling over the
last few years, highly successful online gambling software
provider
Microgaming has brazenly continued to accept players
based in the United States. However, as of Monday next week that
is all set to change.
Microgaming, which provides gambling games to some of the
world's most popular and highly frequented online casinos and
poker rooms, announced this week that as of Monday, November
10th it will stop accepting all US-based players, news that has
rocked the online gambling world.
With its roots in South Africa and its headquarters in the Isle
of Man, Microgaming Software Systems Ltd has been the industry
leader in innovative online gambling solutions for more than a
decade, and currently powers over 120 online casinos and 40
online poker rooms all over the world.
The company's decision to block all US players stems from the
recent debacle in the US state of Kentucky, where Governor Steve
Beshear pushed for the state to legally prevent its citizens
from gambling online by issuing a court order to confiscate the
domains of online gambling operations.
Beshear claimed that online gambling websites were 'affecting
Kentucky's economy' added to the fact that it is illegal for
Kentuckians to gamble online. Earlier this week the state of
Kentucky released a list of domains it is seeking to confiscate
later this month, including that of Microgamings.
Microgaming reacted by announcing that it will attempt to block
players based in Kentucky. However, it seems that the logistics
of this are to hard to accomplish so the firm's executives took
a decision to block all US players as of next week. The
announcement came as a bombshell for many.
These include the US online gamblers themselves as well as the
many Microgaming-powered online casinos and poker rooms,
affiliates and others that have relied on US-generated revenues.
Other reports suggest that China, Singapore and Australia are
also keen to block online gambling activities.
