UK Stats
Revealed on Online Gambling TV Ads
August
20 - When the UK government took the step to legalize and
regulate online gambling in the country, it also laid open the
opportunity - with strict guidelines - for online gambling
companies to advertise their services on TV, although with
surprising results.
A recent study commissioned by the UK Gambling Commission has
revealed that although many UK-based online gambling companies
are spending millions of pounds on TV advertising, they have
made very little difference to online gambling figures in the
country.
The study has shown that the current percentage of UK citizens
that have taken part in some form of online gambling - including
at online casinos, online poker rooms, online sports betting
sites and online bingo rooms - remains largely unchanged from
last year.
According to the report, only 8.8 percent of people in the UK
that participated in the study have taken part in any kind of
online gambling activity, which is almost identical to the
percentage reported in 2007, despite a multitude of television
online gambling campaigns.
While the majority of online gamblers in the UK are men between
18 and 44, the study did, however, reveal one difference from
last year, which is that an increasing number of UK women are
visiting and playing at online gambling websites.
It also revealed that computers and hand held devices are still
the most popular online gambling platforms for UK online
gamblers, as 6.8 percent of the total test group admitted to
using them, while 2.3 percent said they accessed online gambling
sites via their cell phone.
